Druif beach travel guide and vacation resources
Aruba is a very popular Caribbean destination for both those arriving by air and staying on the island overnight and for cruise ship passengers arriving for the day. There are 2 hotel areas, one known as the low rise hotels area including Druif Beach on the coast from Oranjestad and the other known as the high rise hotels area (Palm Beach). In addition to the beaches, water sports and natural formations, Aruba also provides some well known resorts, duty-free shopping, well regarded cuisine and restaurants, casinos and the opportunity to do some island-hopping to both Bonaire and Curacao. One of the most interesting attractions on the island is Arikok National Park, which gives one the opportunity to view the topography of Aruba. Within Arikok is a cave system that includes Fontein Cave, Guadirikiri Cave and Huliba Cave. Gambling is legal on Aruba and casinos include the Alhambra Casino, Allegro Casino, Casablanca Casino (Wyndham Aruba Resort), Casino at the Radisson Aruba, Centurion Casino, Copa Cabana Casino (Hyatt Regency), Crystal Casino (Renaissance Aruba Resort), Excelsior Casino (Holiday Inn SunSpree), Royal Cabana Casino, Seaport Casino, Stellaris Casino (Marriott Aruba Resort). A new casino is to be opened in 2006 at the Occidental Grand Aruba. Aruba is part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands but since 1986 has operated under a "Status Aparte" decree within the Netherlands Antilles (Nederlandse Antillen) meaning that its local government and legislature is semi-autonomous in internal affaris but has a Governor appointed by the Dutch Crown. The island also has its own currency that is separate from the other islands in the Netherlands Antilles (thus if you take a day trip to Bonaire or Curacao you cannot automatically use the Aruban Florin/Guilder on those islands). Unfortunately, the well-known and often photographed Natural Bridge fell in September 2005. There are still additional natural rock bridges which can be seen at Warirui Beach (locatedjust north of the Bushiribana Gold mine ruins), Black Stone Beach (south of Andicuri Beach) and at Seroe Colorado (east of Baby Beach). Aruba has an extensive system of coral reefs, along with quite a number of undersea wrecks, that provide some very good opportunities for diving. There is some opportunities for snorkeling directly from the beach and most of the open water dive sites are primaily located along the western and southern coasts.
